What Happens During the Quit Smoking Timeline?

When people want to quit smoking for good, they need to know the right quit smoking timeline. Although a lot of people think that this timeline is useless, it’s actually important to know their progress. When people know what to expect and what they’ll deal within the next hour, they’ll come prepared and won’t experience shock. The timeline will only act as guidance, but when people know what’s going on next, they won’t easily give up on the cravings and will continue fighting the urge to smoke again.

Cutting the Bad Habit and Quit Smoking Timeline

When people want to stop their bad smoking habit,  it means that they’ve reached the understanding and awareness that it’s damaging their own body. Although a lot of people say that smoking provides peace and calm feeling, it’s just a temporary and unreal effect. Smoking doesn’t make the problem go away. People don’t realize that they only jeopardize themselves when they smoke. Not only they’re exposed to severe health condition, but they might as well experience bad body condition such as bad breath, yellowish and dry skin, blackish mouth and gum, and shabby appearance. It’s very common that people who want to stop smoking get back to their old habit because they can’t stand the cravings. Well, if they know about quit smoking timeline, they can prepare themselves and be ready for uncomfortable feelings that may arise.

The First 24 Hours of Quit Smoking Timeline

It’s been said that the first 24 hours within the quit smoking timeline is the hardest, but the body also starts to get back to the original healthy condition. That’s why it’s such as shame to ruin that good opportunity by going back to that old habit again. What happen during these moments is:

  • 2 hours: the heart rate and blood pressure will decrease and return to its normal state. People may feel warm sensation on their feet and hands. The overall body circulatory system improves.
  • 8 hours: the level of carbon monoxide inside the blood will decrease, allowing the oxygen level to increase and get back to normal.
  • 24 hours: the chance of getting heart attack will decrease.

Obstacles in Quit Smoking Timeline within a Week

After a day in quit smoking timeline, people will start feeling the difficulty to keep up with the quit smoking program. The first four days will be the most difficult moments, but if they hold on, they will survive the battle. The timeline and the problems are:

  • First day: People will start having physical and emotional difficulty. Although their body may experience good thing by recovering to its original state, these people will experience difficulty in concentrating. They will feel as if something were missing and they can’t stop thinking about smoking
  • Second day: The body tissue and nerve systems have repaired themselves. That’s why the smell and taste ability will recover and improve. However, people will feel constant craving because the body is working at its top ability to get rid of the nicotine in the body system.
  • Third day: It’s the hardest time because the craving will increase a lot. It happens because the body is almost finished with the cleaning process. It’s common if they get cranky or easily upset to anyone.
  • Fourth day: Although it’s not as hard as the third day, the physical condition will start to have effect due to nicotine withdrawal. It’s common to experience constipation and coughing tar phlegm. As long as these people have lots of fiber diets and their cough doesn’t contain blood, they’re just doing fine. The body is going through detoxification process.
  • Fifth day: The body will have better condition. People won’t have difficulty in breathing. However, craving for sweets is common. That’s why a lot of people experience gain weight because they can’t control their overeating desire.

Quit Smoking Timeline in a Year

Once people manage to overcome in the first week of quit smoking timeline, they should be able to control themselves because the body has adjusted itself to the healthier lifestyle. Their chances of suffering from heart attack or other diseases will drop up to about 70%.

It’s important to know the timeline because people can be prepared and they won’t be surprised. Nicotine addition isn’t easy to combat, but it’s not a difficult process either. If people have prepared themselves with the knowledge of what can happen within quit smoking timeline, they know what to expect and they won’t easily give up.
